ATL is gearing up for National Chemistry Week (NCW), a community-based program of the American Chemical Society (ACS). This annual program helps build public awareness and promotes the value of chemistry in everyday life. This year’s NCW is October 21-25, 2019 with the theme, “Marvelous Metals.”

ATL is celebrating NCW in several ways including Q&A sessions with our chemists:

Tyler B., Chemist

Why did you want to be a chemist? I became a chemist because I wanted to be on the forefront of making scientific discoveries and contribute what I can to our understanding of the Universe and our place in it.

What new developments in chemistry excite you the most? New medicines excite me the most, and I hope that one day I can make a medicine that helps people.

What do you believe is the biggest misconception about chemists? The biggest misconception about chemists is that we are uptight and prudish, although that’s a big misconception about scientists in general as well.

Who is your favorite chemist and why? My favorite chemist is probably Le Chatelier, because not only is his equilibrium law a good tool to have in the laboratory, but I think that there’s many ways you can implement it into your personal life as well.
